Our first annual keyboard competition was a smash hit! The contest was open to first year students who were nominated by their teachers. We had two seminfinal rounds, and 13 were picked for the final contest. It was a very close contest. The three judges awarded our grand prize to first year student Cassie Wells, a fifth grader from Copper Ridge Elementary in Scottsdale. She performed Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca, Beethoven's Fur Elise, and Arabesque by Burgmuller. Second prize went to Drew Stanton, a 3rd grader from Hopi Elementary, who played Star Wars in addition to Beethoven and Mozart, and 3rd prize went to Dillon Schultz, a 2nd grader from Cherokee Elementary. He performed wonderfully on Mission: Impossible, the Imperial March from Star Wars, as well as classic pieces. The top 3 students all won keyboards! Thanks again to Jared at Casio for his help.

By sponsoring a keyboard club, you enable students a chance they might not get; to learn to play the keyboard on the music they love. These are beginning classes. There is no talent audition to qualify for the classes. Interested students need only submit a 2 paragraph essay on why they want to study the keyboard.
